Chasing Our Tales Across England
EnglandGenWeb, created in 1997 when UKGenWeb (now known as
BritishIslesGenWeb) was founded, is a noncommercial, not for profit
organization which seeks to help researchers around the world find their
English ancestors. The country coordinators are Carol Bennett and
Jayne Primmer.
There are many and varied informational sites linked to the
EnglandGenWeb site, the first and foremost being the county sites,
themselves. Each county contains much specific material which is
unique to that site only. Each county has a mailing list
http://www.rootsweb.com/~engwgw/engmail.html and links to various
query boards specific to the region.
Also, there are other varied mailing lists for England which can be
found at Genealogy Resources on the Internet
http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail_country-unk.html
and Rootsweb mailing lists at http://lists.rootsweb.com.
Another link of enormous assistance to the EnglandGenWeb is
GENUKI http://www.genuki.org.uk which contains much specific information about
the UK and Ireland and includes townland information, parish information,
sort records, maps, etc. GENUKI is also divided in county pages.
Other links found on the EnglandGenWeb page include UK BMD Exchange
(birth, marriage, death) at http://www.ukbdm.org.uk;
UK Census Online at http://freecen.rootsweb.com;
English Records Office and Archives at
http://www.oz.net/~markhow/englishros.htm;
Free BMD at http://freebmd.rootsweb.com;
The Doomesday Book at http://www.domesdaybook.co.uk;
and EnglandGeWeb's Digital Archives at
http://www.worldgenweb.org/archives/england.html.
EnglandGenWeb is the most complete genealogical resource for England,
and it takes pride in maintaining high quality in site management,
page creation, and presentation, as well as personal assistance to the
researcher.
